  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bodvarsson signed for Wrexham on a short deal in late October 2024 and fellow forward Waters joined in March 2023. This week, the duo left for Burton Albion and Oldham Athletic respectively after a mutual agreement to cancel their Wrexham contacts. Now, Parkinson has lifted the lid on this move and admitted he is "hopeful" some new strikers can be signed in January, in an apparent nod to owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

    WHAT PHIL PARKINSON SAID

He said, via BBC Sport: "Jon needed to go and play for his own career and if we couldn't guarantee him game time he wanted to play because he's still young enough to continue his career. Hopefully there will be a few things (signings) that happen."

In an Instagram story, Bodvarsson wrote: "Thanks Wrexham for giving me the platform and opportunity to get back properly going. It was short and sweet but I wish you nothing but the absolute best."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Between Bodvarsson and Waters, they had 14 appearances combined at Wrexham and scored zero goals. The Welsh side are third in League One but have the ninth-best goalscoring record in the division. Their defence is the second-best in the league but if they want to secure a third-straight promotion, a quality striker addition could make that possible.
